Levels, results and security explained

What is the difference between the compression levels?

A lower slider position (higher DPI + higher quality) means less compression but better quality — good for printing or important documents. A higher position (lower DPI + lower quality + downsampling) gives a much smaller file at slightly lower quality — good for reading on screen or sharing online. The estimated size updates live while you drag, so you can find the best balance between quality and size.

Can the text still be copied after compression?

Yes. The tool is built on the Ghostscript pdfwrite device, which only re-encodes images (lower DPI, JPEG recompression); the text layer and vector graphics are left untouched. Text in the compressed PDF stays selectable, copyable and searchable.

Will the PDF lose quality after compression?

At the Light and Standard levels (DPI 150 or above, JPEG quality 70+) the difference is barely visible. The Strong and Extreme levels (DPI 72, quality 40~55) show a noticeable drop, mainly on scanned or image-based PDFs. Use Standard or Strong for scans, and only consider Extreme for image-heavy PDFs.

How large a PDF can be compressed?

A single PDF may be up to 200MB and 500 pages. If your file is larger, split it first (the watermark removal feature can also be used to strip watermarks or split documents).

Why does dragging the slider show the "size after compression"?

We use sampled pre-compression: each time you drag the slider the system takes the first 3 pages as a sample, compresses them for real at the selected level, then extrapolates the whole file size from the actual ratio. It is more accurate than a rule-of-thumb formula, and each estimate takes only a few hundred milliseconds.

Is my PDF secure?

The entire transmission is encrypted by SSL, and file processing runs in an isolated temporary directory. After the task is completed, the original file and compressed results will remain on the server and you can delete them in the task record.
