Do permission restrictions really stop everyone?

Permission restrictions are part of the PDF standard and are honoured by mainstream readers (Acrobat, built-in browser previews and so on), but they are a "gentlemen's agreement" — professional cracking tools can bypass them. For genuine confidentiality, also set an open password.

Why can the file still be printed when "printing forbidden" is ticked?

Some third-party readers ignore the PDF permission bits. We recommend verifying the result in Adobe Acrobat.

What does "low resolution printing only" actually do?

Printing stays allowed but the output is degraded to low quality (usually below 150 dpi), which suits cases where reading and printing are permitted but high-resolution copying is not.
